Cancel Internet Service
Sometimes, it just isn't going to work out between you and your ISP. Unfortunately, many people discover that canceling an account with an ISP is a much bigger ordeal then it was to sign up for the ISP. Rest assured, that it can be done, and these steps will insure that you will be free of your ISP.
- Contact your ISP's technical support line. You'll usually want either customer service or billing, but you should be transferred to the proper department either way.
- When you reach the proper department, inform the representative that you wish to cancel your account.
- Provide any information the representative requires, such as name, account number or email address.
- Once you have confirmed with them that you want to cancel your account, they should perform the task and give you a confirmation number. If they don't, ask for one.
Tips and Warnings!
- ISPs want you to remain on as customers, and they may try to offer you a better deal than you have in order to keep you. It's up to you whether or not to accept the deal.
- Be firm. ISPs do not give up on retaining customers easily. You may have to insist on a cancellation.
- Some ISPs do not cancel your service, despite your insisting that they do. As a result, they continue to bill you for their service. Always be explicit that you want them to completely cancel your account, and get and record any confirmation numbers. If the charge persists, you may need to get your credit card company or an attorney involved.
