Installation Instructions for Roadrunner Wireless

Road Runner is an Internet service provider owned by Time Warner Cable that provides high-speed Internet using a modem. You can set up wireless Internet by using a router that connects all computers in your home to the Internet. Using wireless Internet allows all computers to access the Web and to each other for file sharing. You can set up Roadrunner wireless in a few steps.

Instructions

  1. Unplug the Road Runner modem. Plug the Ethernet cable from the back of the Road Runner modem into the port labeled "Internet" on the back of the router.
  2. Plug another Ethernet cable into one of the four ports on the back of the router. Plug the other end of this cable into the Ethernet port on the back of the computer.
  3. Plug the Road Runner modem back in and wait approximately 30 seconds. This allows the modem to connect to the Internet.
  4. Plug the router into an electrical outlet. Wait for the Internet, WAN or WLAN light on the front of the router to go on. When it does, you are connected to the Internet.
  5. Open a Web browser, such as Firefox or Internet Explorer. Type "192.168.1.1" in the address bar and press "Enter." If this address does not work, refer to your router's documentation for the address number. A user name and password dialog box will open. In most cases, enter "admin" as the user name and "password" as the password and click "OK." If this does not work, refer to your router's documentation.
  6. Configure the router's settings on the configuration screen that opens. There are several settings you can change. The SSID is your wireless network name and you can change this to something unique. Refer to your router's manual on how to configure your router. When you are finished, click "Save."
