Back Up Favorites in Internet Explorer

Chances are, you've been accumulating Favorites in your Internet Explorer browser over some period of time. You happen upon a website you really like, and add it to your Favorites so that you can either visit it on a regular basis or go back to it at some point down the road when you really need that particular information.

But if your computer crashed and you had to reinstall your operating system, would you be able to remember the URLs of all of your Favorites from memory? If not, you might want to back them up, just in case.
Instruction

  1. Open Internet Explorer. Click "File" on the toolbar, then click on "Import and Export." The "Import/Export Wizard" will open.
  2. Click "Next" to go to the Import/Export Selection screen. Click on "Export Favorites" and then "Next."
  3. Leave the "Favorites" folder highlighted--unless you only wish to back up certain Favorites. If so, choose those you wish to back up. Click "Next."
  4. Click the "Browse" button to navigate to the location you want to use to save your Favorites. You might want to save them to a CD or flash drive. If you are on a server, you can save them there.
  5. Click "Finish," and your Favorites will all be saved to the destination you chose. If you ever need to reload them, simply click "Import Favorites" from the Import/Export Wizard and follow the steps.
