How to Enable GPS in a USB Modem

Global Positioning System (GPS) is a navigational device that detects the location of several satellites in space to triangulate a specific location on the ground. A USB modem is a network device that one can plug into a USB port of a computer. USB modems do not have the hardware to detect the location of satellites. They do, however, connect to NID (Network Interface Device), which is a terminal that your Internet service uses to connect a user into the Internet. A user can track the location of the NID to determine their location.

Instructions:

  1. Connect to the Internet. This will delegate an IP address to the USB modem, and connect to the NID.
  2. Go to IP Trace (see Resources). This traces the location of the NID, less than 6,000 feet (1.1 miles) from your computer.
  3. Click on the blue text that reads "Click for big IP address location image," located in the map on the right hand of the screen. This will open a satellite image of the NID.

There is user who prefers to share the drive (C:, D:, E:, etc) in the network, but it’s not recommended. Sharing drive is dangerous, if your computer is not patched, configured and secured properly, your computer will be attacked by virus/trojan easily by sharing the drive.

So, the best way is, only share the folder which you need to share. Only assign write permission to folder if really needed.
