Activate GPRS for the Nokia E51

The Nokia E51 is a robust cell phone that is able to send and receive email and browse the Web through the cellular network, but it needs the correct GPRS settings in order to access the Internet. You also need a data feature on your account, so contact your carrier to verify you have the correct data features before changing the data settings in the phone. Once you know you have the right features, you are ready to set the GPRS settings.

This article will help you to Activate GPRS for the Nokia E51.
Instructions

  1. Contact your cellular provider and ask for the Access Point Name for your cellular network. It's a different setting for each provider that you will need to enter into the phone.

  2. Click the "Menu" key on the keypad to open the phone's main menu. Scroll down to tools and click the "OK" button. Scroll down and click "Tools," "Settings," "Connections."

  3. Click "Access Points" to create a new connection. Click "Options," then "New access point." Click "Use default settings."

  4. Type in the name of the new connection using the keypad. Name it something descriptive so you can tell what it is if you have to come back to the screen later.

  5. Click "Data Bearer" and click "Packet Data" from the drop down menu. This tells the phone to use data packets on the data channel.

  7. Click on the drop down menu and press "OK" to set the "Username" to "None."
  8. Set the "Prompt Password" option to "No" by clicking on the drop down and pressing the "OK" button. Leave the password field underneath blank.

  9. Set the "Authentication" option to "Normal" with the button.
  10. Type in the homepage you wish the phone to open in the "Homepage box." This page will display automatically whenever you open the phone's browser.
