Fix an Internet Explorer Freeze

Internet Explorer is a web browser made by Microsoft. It allows users to visit websites when connected to the Internet. From time to time, like all software programs, Internet Explorer may crash or freeze up. This can be caused by a number of issues ranging from conflicts with add-ons to caches filled with void or malicious websites. There are ways to minimize the risk of a freeze-up.

This article will help you to Fix an Internet Explorer Freeze.
Instructions

  1. Hold down the "Ctrl," "Alt," and "Delete" keys at the same time to bring up the Task Manager. Locate Internet Explorer from this list, click on it and select "Close Program." This will shut down the frozen browser windows.
  2. Launch Internet Explorer with no add-ons. Click on the "Start" button in Windows followed by "All Programs" and then "Accessories." Select "System Tools" and click on "Internet Explorer." This will launch the basic version of Internet Explorer. If the browser runs without freezing, add-ons may be causing the problem.
  3. Close Internet Explorer and reopen it from the desktop shortcut, which will open Internet Explorer with all add-ons enabled. Immediately click on the "Tools" link in Internet Explorer followed by "Manage add-ons." Look for the heading "Show" and select "All add-ons."
  4. Click each add-on and select "Disable" for each. It may take some trial and error to find which add-ons are causing the freeze. Click "Close" when finished.
  5. Reset Internet Explorer and clear the cache if you still experience freezing. Click the "Tool" button in Internet Explorer followed by "Internet Options." Select "Advanced" and click "Reset." Click "Close" and then "OK."
  6. Close and relaunch Internet Explorer. Go to the "Tools" menu once more followed by "Internet Options." Click on "Security" and "Reset all Zones to Default Level."
