Transfer Favorites Onto a New Laptop


When you purchase a new laptop, one of the first things you may want to do is transfer your favorites from your old PC to the new laptop. Having your familiar favorites installed and ready to go on your new laptop will ease the transition and simplify your browsing on your new laptop. Fortunately, most Internet browsers make it easy to export favorites to a file. You can then transfer the file from your old computer to your new laptop and then import them into your new browser

This article will help you to transfer favorites onto a new laptop.

Instructions
  1. Open Internet Explorer if you use this Internet browser. Open the Favorites folder and click "Import and Export" then click "Next." Choose "Export Favorites" and then "Next" again. Select the Favorites folder you wish to export and then click "Next." Save the Favorites folder on your desktop for easy access. Click "Finish."
  2. Open Mozilla Firefox if you use this browser. Open "Bookmarks" and then select "Organize Bookmarks." Select "File" and then "Export." Save your bookmarks as a file on your desktop.
  3. Connect your PC to the external hard drive using the USB cable or connect the flash drive to the PC. Transfer the Favorites or Bookmarks folder from your old PC to the external hard drive or to the flash drive.
  4. Connect the external hard drive or the flash drive to the new laptop in the same fashion. Transfer the Favorites or Bookmarks folder from your storage device to the new laptop desktop.
  5. Open Internet Explorer on the new laptop and open the Favorites folder. Click "Import and Export" and then click "Next." Choose "Import Favorites" and then click "Next." Select the Favorites folder from the new laptop desktop and click "Next" to import the favorites into your new Internet Explorer browser.
  6. Open Mozilla Firefox on your new laptop and open the "Bookmarks" tab. Select "Organize Bookmarks." Select "File" and then "Import from an HTML File." Click "Next" and then select the Bookmarks file from the laptop desktop. Click "Open" to import the Bookmarks to Firefox.
