Create a Second Domain Controller

A domain controller is a Windows Server that acts as a central hub for performing authentication, logging and security processes for an Active Directory network. Windows Network Administrators will need to create a second domain controller to split their network into segments or to create a fail-safe system in the event the primary controller is not responsive.

Instructions

1. Press "Start," choose "Run" and enter the command "dcpromo /adv" without quotes in the run dialog.
    
2. Click "Next" until you reach the Network Credentials screen. Supply the user name, password and domain of the Administrative account you wish to create the domain controller with.
    
3. Click "Next" and choose a location on the device where log and data files should be stored.
    
4. Choose an administrative password and click "Next" until installation is completed.
    
5. Click "OK" to restart your computer when prompted. You have now installed a second domain controller.
