Set Up Opera Mini on a Palm Tungsten


Opera makes a web browser that can be used on any Java-enabled device such as smart phones, computers and PDAs like the Palm Tungsten. The Opera Mini browser is the version designed for the Tungsten. The mobile web browser that comes standard with these devices only lets the user view nonmobile pages but not access certain types of buttons, text boxes and other Java objects. Opera Mini allows for users to fully access websites that have not been designed for mobile platforms.

Instructions

  1. Open the web browser that came installed on the Palm Tungsten.
     
  2. Navigate to the mobile Opera site and download Opera Mini. The site will automatically detect the model device and offer the appropriate file for download. Click on the download link to acquire the file.
     
  3. Follow the prompts on the Tungsten screen to grant permission for the download and wait until the process is complete.
     
  4. Go back to the main menu on the PDA and open the "System" option.
     
  5. Change the default for the "Prefs" option to "Other" and select "IBM Java VM" from the list. This completes the setup necessary to run Opera Mini on the Palm Tungsten. Save the changes and exit back to the main menu.
